And look alike, some people say!
Andrej Pejic For Sofia Coppola’s The Little Mermaid
Jun 16, 2014 3:52PM
Forget your preconceived ideas of what Sofia Coppola’s forthcoming The Little Mermaid might be like. Androgynous model and ridiculously good looking person, Andrej Pejic has reportedly just signed on for a role, her first feature film part. The Oyster #91 babe and BFF of Oyster #104 gal Ines Rau, looks set to play sister #4 in the live-action adaptation of the Disney/Hans Christian Anderson tale of depressing, un-requited romance — a theme right up Sofia’s alley. Having Andrej on board speaks volumes about the film’s potentially amazing aesthetic though, right? We’re excited.
The 22-year-old has previously appeared in a short film called Reason, the TV drama Faith and even alongside Tilda Swinton in that epic David Bowie clip for ‘The Stars (Are Out Tonight)’ last year, but now — she’s in game-changing territory. Meanwhile, the film’s screenwriter is Caroline Thompson, whose previous work includes still-great The Addams Family as well as Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands and The Corpse Bride. Okay, now we’re really excited. Shit’s gonna be dark.

He has conquered catwalks around the world with his gender-bending beauty and now androgynous model Andrej Pejić is set to conquer the big screen.
The 22-year-old Australian talent has joined the cast of Oscar-winning filmmaker Sofia Coppola’s adaption of the classic Hans Christian Andersen tale The Little Mermaid.
So far he’s the only person attached to the project, with his role listed simply as ‘Sister #4’ which will likely see him play one of Ariel’s mermaid siblings.
It won’t be Pejić’s first big acting job, however, as he made the leap from catwalk to screen in the video clip for David Bowie’s The Stars (Are Out Tonight) last year alongside Tilda Swinton.
He also filmed a bit part in short film Reason and historical drama television series Faith, but The Little Mermaid with be his major motion picture debut.
The highly anticipated film is yet to be given a release date, with Coppola - daughter of legendary filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola - recently coming off last year’s The Bling Ring with Emma Watson.
Fans of Disney’s The Little Mermaid will be disappointed though, with the Marie Antoinette and Lost In Translation director setting out for a much darker tone for her version.
Screenwriter Caroline Thompson has joined the project, with her past credits including The Addams Family and Tim Burton films The Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands and The Corpse Bride.
It won’t be the first time an Australian model has played a mermaid in a big screen blockbuster, with supermodel Gemma Ward also portraying a deadly version of the mythical sea creature in Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
